Maybe a bit early to start a thread on this (this years event is next weekend) but from the travellers to Le Mans their was a preference to do this next year instead of Le Mans.

More details here....

http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/

Think we should make a weekend of it - go up either Thursday night or Friday morning and back on Sunday evening, and they seem have a good quality campsite.

What do people think?

Be good, as long as it does not rain, the campsites had some issues while you were away, much larger turnout for F1 though.
They also run Le Mans qualifying races that would be worth a visit.

And no sea crossing for anyone to worry about!

Just think if people only have to take one day off from work (Friday) they are more likely to come along?

OK....this is gathering momentum.... ;D

We have two options.....

The Woodlands Campsite is walking distance of gate 15 (the corner before the new start/finish straight), and there is also a complimentary shuttle tractor/trailor for those too tired/old/drunk to walk back and forward.

The option is whether we take a club pitch. They have now closed it for this year, but the details roughly were we paid £100 as a club and this gave discounted entry, etc. However this means we should move the cars across from the campsite each day.

Personally, would rather leave the cars once arrived and consume whatever I want during the day (especially if Mike comes with his wine vat.....), ::) but happy to run with the popular vote....

Here is an update on the ground conditions on-site:

- The ground is still very wet underfoot following persistent rain since the F1.

- Please bring with you wellies or wet weather footwear.

- The grass is damaged in many locations site wide, but on the whole is in good condition.

- If we experience more rain before or during the event it is possible that your vehicle will need to be towed. We will be on-hand to facilitate this but please be prepared.

Quick freshen up of this event....

Date seems to have been put as 26th - 28th July 2012, but subject to confirmation.

This place looks quite good for camping, but as cost per person per night might work out expensive (silverstone on site this year was £40 from Thur - Mon):

http://www.silverstone-camping.co.uk/ind....ic-camping.html

....did like the generators/music off at midnight following the Le Mans nightmare of a couple of years back.... >:(

Well to nudge it on a bit I think the list coming together was

HoE
Faast Al
Malc
Bling, JC & Mikee in the campervan/support vehicle
Gadget
Brick
Richwill
Beanpole
My mate Mike
Stuart?
MarkS?

Can you each confirm how many entry tickets you need?
Its on the 26th-28th July (Friday - Monday)

Three day tickets are £86, two day £64.50. Go up by about 20% after the end of March. Under 16's £10.75 three day and £8.06 two day.

Camping at Woodlands which is by the circuit is £43 per adult for the weekend and £16.13 for a child. Electrical hook up pitches for the campervans is £53.75

Woodlands:

The facilities at Silverstone Woodlands are second to none, from purpose built permanent toilets & showers to an on-site shop, as well as food outlets and “The Petrol Head” pub. The campsite entrance is only a 250m walk from Gate 15 of the Silverstone Circuit, but with a complimentary shuttle service of tractors and trailers throughout the campsite and a Silverstone Classic bus stop at Gate 15 on the perimeter road bus route, campers can do as little walking as they wish.

These prices include the rip off booking fee. All of the above we can get 10% off with AA membership, which will roughly cancel the booking fee. SWMBO might be a member if not would Gadget be able to pay on our behalf? I will also contact Speedchills to see if they can do anything for us.

Depends on peoples availability but would be nice to go up late Thursday and be set up to enjoy the weekend from Friday AM until Sunday night.

My inclusion is subject to the provision of a real bed and a roof! If that is understood the Bling mobile covers all these requirements.

I am happy to stay as long as the van is there and to contribute to the running and site fees incurred by Bling.

So in response to the question..... whatever days Bling requests/confirms/orders for the van, order for me.
