 Accident repair for 7
« Thread Started on Jul 11, 2012, 7:12pm »

Many of you will know that my 7 had an accident loading onto a ferry.

Exhaust and it's rear mount damaged. Rear wing severely damaged and rivinuts ripped out of the alluminium tub.

Suggestions please for a localish repairer that understands GRP and alluminium, and knows one end of a 7 from the other.

Al

There is a professional workshop I trust near Chippenham who is a small one man and his dog race-pre company.

I have used them for all my detailed work and set ups on the Lotus(s) and my kit cars. He works in carbon fibre and other plastics as well and metal.

I suspect that the repair of the damage is greater than just a bit of resin and matting so a proper mechanical workshop with GRP capabilities is possibly where you are. :-[

I have the trailer if you need transport to get it there. :D

Hi Trev,

I've checked plugs and reset gap.
Drained fuel tank ... just over 2 gallons after the run back from France.. I'm in the middle of replaceing fuel filter, still waiting for new one to arrive off E-bay, well it's at the post office waiting for me to collect >:( >:( Changed the oil and filter on Wednesday night while I was waiting for the filter. So I'm nearly ready to refill with new petrol, start her up and test some wires.
I did reset the tick over on the Tuesday morning and started it up and it ran fine so god knows what was causing the problem.
Oh and I've had a word with Quantum about the tank venting and they just fit a vented filler cap so when I can drive it I'll be seaching for a new cap.

Bill, it may be possible to drill a very small hole in your current cap?

As far as I know car is still in France - but things may be happening, will let you know when it's back for repairs.

Thought you were going to fit a safety vent with the both way valves for pressure and vacuum control Bill?

A vented cap is OK if it is high, on the Robin Hood and Westy it would spill fuel.

Hope you get yours back soon Al

I put a vent in the top of my tank as I had the same problem.

Have you let the fuel you took out to settle - if there was a water content it will separate out at the bottom?

First to do is an estimate, then get a go-ahead and do the work, which I imagine will take some time.

Car now at Track Developments, arrived thismorning, very dirty and with a small ding on the bonnet and a scrape on the roll bar it didn't have when last seen in France.

Dave has started preparing the estimate

Sounds like they may have lifted it using the roll bar!

:D 7 now back home in my garage ;D

I'm pleased with the results (a few things to fiddle with) but keen to have a run out - shame the weather's changed :'(

And I've had a good holiday too :)

Faast Al

PS. Many thanks to JC for driving me up to collect the car.
